やってきました！
唐津ロータリークラブの取り組みの一環として行われている高校生の交換留学。数年ぶりの実施となった今回、アメリカよりOwen Henry JAKL（オーウェン ヘンリー ジャックル）くんが本校にやってきました。オーウェンくんは17歳。イリノイ州のオウロラシティ出身です。約１年間、日本（唐津）での生活と唐津西高での学校生活を送ることになります。互いの文化の違いを学び、刺激を受け合いながら成長していきましょう。
Self-introduction
Hi! I am Owen Jakl. I like to play tennis and listen to music in my free time. I have the standard classes at school: calculus, English, gym, government, but I am also taking computer science, Choir (singing), and Psychology during some of my open periods. After school I like to play chess during the Autumn and Winter, and tennis during the Spring. At home, I have my own room that I share with my pet bearded dragon, Drago. My community is not in the city, but it is near it. There is a large and diverse population of people here, and you never have to drive too far in order to get somewhere. The population is about 200,000 people in Aurora, where I live, but there are many others in neighboring towns and cities as well. My number one interest is listening to music of all kinds exploring different sounds, time periods, influences, etc. I listen to music pretty much whenever I can. I’ve loved music for a while now, but I probably got serious about it a little less than a year ago. I have never been out of the United States of America, but I am very excited to take my first trip! I think my greatest strengths are that I’m compassionate of others and always want to help if they come to me with a problem, and that I am able to look at things both logically and emotionally whenever the time comes for either. After high school I’d like to go to a 4-year college and study Computer Science. After that, I’d like to find a job either in software engineering of information technology. I really hope that as an exchange student, I can gain a new outlook on how others see the world, and how different cultures and comeuppances can effect people’s lives on a daily basis. I want to inform others about different cultures and maybe bring back some of their culture along with me. Overall I want to make progress into understanding everybody’s differences, and hopefully make strides to making the world a place of global acceptance and appreciation.

こんにちは！ 私はオーウェン・ジャクルです。 私は空いた時間にテニスをしたり、音楽を聴いたりするのが好きです。 私は学校で微積分、英語、体育、公民の必修クラスを受講していますが、自由選択ではコンピューターサイエンス、合唱、心理学も取っています。 放課後には、秋と冬はチェス、春はテニスを好んでやっています。私は自分の部屋でペットのドラゴという名前のひげのあるトカゲを飼っています。私の住む街は都会ではありませんが、都会の近くにあります。 この街には多くの多様な人々が住んでいて、どこに行くにも車でそれほど遠くはありません。 私が住んでいるオーロラの人口は約 20 万人ですが、近隣の町や都市にも多くの人が住んでいます。 私が一番興味を持っていることは、さまざまなサウンド、時代、影響などを考察しながら、あらゆる種類の音楽を聴くことです。できる限りたくさんの音楽を聴いています。 私は昔から音楽が好きでしたが、本格的に聞き始めたのは1 年ほど前からです。 私はこれまでアメリカから出たことはありませんでしたが、今回の初めての海外旅行にとても興奮しています! 私の長所は、人を思いやる気持ちがあり、困っている人をいつも助けたいと思うこと、そしていざという時には論理的にそして相手の身になって物事を考えることができるところだと思います。 高校卒業後は、4 年制大学に行き、コンピューター サイエンスを学びたいと思っています。 その後、情報工学のソフトウェアエンジニアの仕事を見つけたいと思っています。 交換留学生として、みなさんが世界をどのように見ているか、そして異なる文化や出来事が私たちの日常生活にどのように影響を与えるのか、新しい視野を発見できることを心から願っています. 私はみなさんにみなさんとは異なる文化を伝え、みなさんの文化の一部をアメリカに持ち帰りたいと思っています。最後に、私は違いを理解することで様々な人や異なった文化を理解し、受け入れる世界を作っていきたいです。
